Background
Over the summer, the subgroup of the Board comprising directors with no conflict of interest on staffing matters has discussed several HR issues privately in order to bring them to the Board later. One issue that we have discussed concerns the need to allow for inflation in the levels of compensation TDF makes to its employees and contractors. This has previously been handled ad-hoc each year, but we feel the Board should implement a policy of automatically empowering the Executive Director to make the necessary adjustments. The following represents a consensus proposal we now bring to the full board for implementation.
Motion
MOVED that:
- The board decides to put in place an annual inflation compensation for employees and contractors in the TDF staff;
- Base compensation may be adjusted based on the inflation in the country of residence of the employee or contractor
- The basis to be used for the calculation is the annual inflation statistics published by the European Commission or a comparable public authority
- The adjustment will be performed each year in June, if needed on a retroactive basis, by the Executive Director.
