Some suggestions for those beginning work on an updated chapter template

Bottom of page 8 of the LO 3.4 chapter template:

Sample paragraph in OOoTextBody_ListIntro style introducing a numbered
list.
1) Sample numbered list item (OOoNum 123 Start style)
2) Another item in the numbered list (OOoNum 123 Cont.)
And a continuation item (no number), using OOoList_TextBody_L1
3) Another item in the numbered list (OOoNum 123 Cont.)
   a) A second-level list item ((using alphabetic “numbers”) —use
Demote
icon and OOoNum abc Start to style.
   b) Another second-level list item (OOoNum abc Cont.).
      i. Now we have a third-level nested list. It uses lowercase
roman
numerals—use Demote icon and OOoNum iii Start to style.
      ii. Another third-level list item
   c) A final second-level list item
4) Final item in first level (OOoNum 123 End).

Something to consider replacing it with:
Sample paragraph in OOoTextBodyListIntro style introducing a numbered
list.
1) Sample numbered list item (OOoNum123 style)
2) Another item in the numbered list (OOoNum123)
And a continuation item (no number), using OOoListTextBodyL1
3) Another item in the numbered list (OOoNum123)
   a) A second-level list item ((using alphabetic “numbers”) —use
Demote
      icon and OOoNumabc to style.
   b) Another second-level list item (OOoNumabc).
      i. Now we have a third-level nested list. It uses lowercase
roman
numerals—use Demote icon and OOoNumiii to style.
ii. Another third-level list item (OOoNumiii)
   c) A final second-level list item
4) Final item in first level (OOoNum123End).

Observations:
1) Spaces, Parentheses and Underlines do not convert properly to ePUB
format.
Spaces are replaced by 20%, beginning Parentheses become 28, and
Underlines
   become 5f:
         OOoNum 123 Start -> OOoNum20%12320%Start;
         OOoTableText(Caption) -> OOoTableText28Caption;
         OOoList_TextBody_L2 -> OOoList5fTextBody5fL2
2) The paragraph list styles ending with Start and Cont. are
identical:
   OOoNum123Start matches OOoNum123Cont., OOoNumabcStart matches
OOoNumabcCont., and OOoNumiiiStart matches OOoNumiiiCont. We would
have the
same results using OOoNum123, OOoNumabc, and OOoNumiii by giving them
the
equivalent style as their respective style ending with Start. We
still need
to use the styles ending with END, but renaming them to remove the
spaces.
3) I wonder about the need to use the Demote icon and then apply a list
style.
If the levels were set correctly in the styles in the first place,
will the
   list items be properly placed?
4) (Personal problems with this one): If level 1 uses 1), level 2 uses
a) and level 3 uses i., what is stopping us from creating a number style
with these three levels? We use to have problems using a numbered list
that included a table such as a Tip/Note/Caution table. That is no
longer the case. I have several examples of this in my writings. Rather
than use the demote or promote icon, I click the beginning of the level
and use the Tab key to demote one level or Shift+Tab to promote one
level.

Could you pls point me to where that document lies? Couldn't find it (yet). This is why I've been working with the Starting Guide (SG) 3.4. which I found rich enough for a starter (pun intended).

Anyway, thanks for your remarks. They add to the little stock of mine.

WRT that subjet, where could I upload the files on which I've been working when they are ready? (ie, soon

The latest tweaks by Jean and the version to which I referred:

Thanks!

This sounds like a project for Tom: create a place on Alfresco
where we can do this. (I wonder where he is when we need him. Well, as I
write this it is only a little after 4 PM where he lives.)
I would prefer to have a place where we can list the proposed
styles and let each have his or her say as to why particular styles are
needed. We could use some input from Jean on this as well.
(Example of questionable style: Character style named LibOUiItem. I
think this is the same as OOoStrongEmphasis.)

Hi
It's actually David that normally sets things up in Alfresco but i get the feeling that anyone with Admin access can do it.

I still need to contact David about setting up the Chinese translations area too and i've lost the original request.
Regards from
Tom

We could as well devise a wiki page (ie some "whiteboard") to discuss that matter with all who'd like to.

WRT Alfresco: I had an account which blew away in the crash.

If you still have your user name and password, you can sign into
Alfresco with it.

Actually, no, that account was gone. I have created another and sent
Jean-Francois the login details.

Thanks Jean! Got it.

Hi Tom, guys,

It's actually David that normally sets things up in Alfresco but i get the feeling that anyone with Admin access can do it.

I still need to contact David about setting up the Chinese translations area too and i've lost the original request.

I've been very, very taken up with life away from LibreOffice
recently, but it's certainly true that Tom and various others have
admin access.

In any case, let's say that I'm back in town, will be reading this
list daily, and will finish work on a comprehensive Alfresco user and
admin guide over the coming week or so.
