Schedule for the live sessions with the Board candidates

Dear Members, dear Community,

The organisation of the live Q&A sessions with the Board candidates has been finalised. Please, remember to send in your questions as described in the previous message[0].

Where:

* The URL for the sessions will be always the same:
https://jitsi.documentfoundation.org/BoardElections2021

When:

- Monday, November 29th: 11.00-13.00 UTC / 12.00-14.00 CET: session suitable for JST timezone[1]

- Tuesday, November 30th 19.00-21.00 UTC / 20.00-22.00 CET: session suitable for CET timezone[4]

- Thursday, December 2nd 21.00-23.00 UTC / 22.00-24.00 CET: session suitable for BRT timezone[3]

Some reminders and clarifications:

- There are 3 sessions planned on 3 different days for making it easier for contributors on different timezones to find a suitable slot.
- The sessions are optional (both for the candidates and the attendees) and everyone of you is of course invited.
- If you want you can also attend all the sessions.
- We didn't ask you to pre-register yourself for leaving everyone free to decide to join also at the very last minute. This implies that we don't know how many people will show up during the live session.
- We would like to give to the attendees also the chance to ask questions in a language different from English. In every session we will have a person that will do live translations when needed.
- The questions to the candidates will be in English or translated to English.
- We would like to record the sessions in particular for the TDF members that will be not able to join the live session.
- This is the first time we are organising a live Q&A session with candidates so, be patient and remember to have fun!

Some notes on Jitsi:

- Mute yourself while not speaking.
- If you don't want to be recorded remember to keep your video off.
- If you don't want to have your voice recorded, feel free to type in the chat.
- Please, keep in mind that also the chat will be recorded.

If something is unclear, please, feel free to reach out.

On behalf of the Membership Committee,
Marina Latini

Hi all,

Dear Members, dear Community,

[...]

- The questions to the candidates will be in English or translated to
English.

I would like to send a big thank you to Naruhiko for his work on live
translation. This is a difficult work but very important for the
understanding of the future actions of the Board.
Big thanks for your investment there, and also to the Japanese community
for its great presence
Cheers
Sophie

From my side too.

Unfortunately I closed the session thanking almost everyone but forgetting a special thank you to Naruhiko-san.
So I profit of Sophi’s message to do it now

I really liked this initiative and look forward to the next one, tomorrow at 19:00 UTC.

I'd like to join Sophie in thanking Naruhiko for translating the session and for the insight provided of the Japanese community.

Language is a barrier for many so I believe it's important to have and probably invest in people and tools that make exchanges of ideas easier with the many LibreOffice communities around the world.

While there may be some cultural differences we have a lot of issues and opportunities in common on which we need to work together.

One of the points that have been mentioned is Privacy. Also here in Europe the vast majority of people is totally unaware of the issues caused by what is sometimes called "surveillance capitalism" but changes are happening here with various groups and even with new European laws that should reduce the dependency on US providers.

Maybe there are similar groups dedicated to promoting privacy and technological sovereignty that could help supporting LibreOffice?

Any other suggestions and information that could be useful to TDF to help you out?

Ciao

Paolo

Hi all,

First of all, I would like to say big thanks to have the awesome
opportunity to ask BoD candidates directly at a JP-friendly time slot.

As you know, I'm not a TDF member at this time.
One of the reasons is that I'm exhausted from "because I'm a member, I
should do it for our ideals."
But I was reminded that it was my pleasure to help those who express
their gratitude, like you.
I cannot see the ideals, but I can see you. So the translation was a
tough job for me but I was really happy that I could help you all.

Thank you for your valuable opportunity!

Best regards,
Naruhiko NARU Ogasawara

Hi,

Thanks Paolo for adding words to the important topics, the language
barrier and privacy matters.
As I mentioned in a previous mail, I'm not a member of TDF at least
now, so I will not reply to your comment. I think it's a
responsibility for the members.

Anyway, thank you for your warm words!
