Introduction: Does TDF want to offer more guides in EPUB format?

Hello all,

I’ve just joined. My name is Tegan. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve been reading old posts here about efforts to improve the quality of EPUB conversions of user guides. I was pleased to see that some volunteers have already worked on refining the markup of the ODT files within Writer so that EPUB converters produce higher quality output. I thought that since I have a background in web development, perhaps I can help make EPUB editions.

Recently I used Writer v7.4.7.2 to export EPUB versions of some of the chapters from the Base Guide v7.3. (English translation). The quality of the document made me hopeful that I might be able to create a CSS stylesheet that fixes most of the problems, minimizing any manual correction that may needed in the XHTML of each EPUB edition.

So, would TDF welcome a contribution of this kind? What is the state of the EPUB effort now? Are there any dependencies that should be met before someone begins work on creating publishable EPUBs? Are there project goals that I should know about? I’ve started reviewing open bug reports about XHTML and EPUB to inform myself of known issues with conversion.
