Is it that the chapter covers are not going to include the image in the lower corner (LibreSplosion - I think was the name) as was agreed?

BUGS in IG26.2
Chapter title pages have 26,2 (with a comma) - should be 26.2 (period)

Chapter title pages do not have artwork, as noted by @bantoniof

PDF was created without including automatic blank pages, so some chapters start on left hand when in two-page view.

In most chapters the first numbered list does not restart at 1)

There is a page after the back cover page. It has a copyright page footer.

First page (after title page) of Preface has incorrect page style (Copyright instead of First Page).

I have corrected the ODT of the full book, but I cannot upload it to NextCloud because it is much too large. I can put it somewhere like Dropbox and provide a link so someone else can deal with it. Let me know if I should do that. @ohallot

I did not attempt to add the image on the chapter title pages.

I have created a PDF from the corrected book and uploaded it to NextCloud.

I have left to @PeeWee to correct the individual chapter files.

I am now working on the print edition.

I have created the print edition of this book. @ohallot @PeeWee

Hi

I “sanitized” all chapters of Impress Guide 26.2 in the Published folder but did not touch the compiled book. The sanity check extension version is 26.4 (of april 2026)

Done

  • Applied the right template to chapters
  • fixed document information numbering, date and title.
  • Several list restarts here and there
  • Removal of styles not belonging to official template (“Page break after” replaced by “Heading 1 First” in the 1st Heading 1 in chapter as well as legacy styles from previous editions)
  • reposition many images in text preventing large blank gaps.
  • some images cropped to better fit in page and focus on the text contents (e.g. macOS print dialog was way too large)
  • many images resized.
  • fixed some broken reference links, mostly for images.
  • removed “Community” tag in LibreOffice product reference.

Not done

  • Change in text contents
  • Master document
  • PDF of each chapter

The sanitized chapters will be source for next Impress Guide 27.2, and are source for the web pages I’ll create soon.

Cheers

Olivier

PS. I backed up the original chapter files, just in case.

Thanks for the help @jeanweber !!!

For some reason, the Impress guide version 26.2 files are an unusual size.

IG252-ImpressGuide.odt = 38.3MB
IG262-ImpressGuide.odt = 467.3MB

  • Also the PDF versiĂłn
    IG252 = 20.1MB
    IG262 = 41.9MB
    And every chapter file

I have been investigating and I thik the problem is due to the size of the images, possibly the program that has been used to edit them or the settings that have been used.

Indeed… I was to complain on the new LO release slowness, but yes, the images are huge, above 1500 points per inch.

The images can be compressed with LibreOffice and reduce 90% of the size, but there are hundreds of them
Olivier

Images can be compressed in one pass (outside of LibreOffice); With the screenshots I think there won’t be much quality loss.

  • Although, the correct thing to do is to investigate what action caused the problem to avoid this type of situation.

Hello Olivier

I have just returned from a very hot, but great holiday, from Crete and I am now catching up.

I am looking at the images used in the Impress Guide and can see the problem. Without realising, I have used high definition images in the Impress user guide and chapters. I shall replace the all the images this week using a normal definition to reduce the size of the files. My system was set to using high definition for some private work I was doing and I did not change it back. Please accept my apologies.

Jean has mentioned that the back cover text is incorrect as shown in her message text:-

"The back cover text for at least some of the guides (Getting Started and Impress; I have not checked all of them) still shows documentation .libreoffice as the URL for PDFs. This URL does not redirect to the current location, books .libreoffice and the old location does not include LO26.2 books.”

Could you [please let me know where the updated back cover text is located so that I can download and replace the text used the for the Impress back cover.

Hi Peter

As I wrote above, I have used the sanity check to reshape the pages of each chapter. I missed the issue on the size of the images, however you don’t need to take new screenshots.

The files are in the Published folder.

You can use the button 2 on each image and use the Compress command, setting the resolution to 300 DPI (default) and nothing more. The image will be handled in-place and no further operation is needed. Visual quality should not change.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Olivier

Thanks Olivier. Will have a look tomorrow. Regards PeeWee
