Hello Everybody

Indenting the Body Text style is a good idea, but I suggest that a 1cm indent is used, which is equivalent to a 28 point indent. I have used this style of layout before in user guides. A 2cm (56 point) indent is too much and makes the headings look a bit lost on the page.

I am used to using points when it comes to page layout. This is a leftover from earlier days of creating user guides before the creation of office software and printing user guide pages using offwet printers.

Just had a thought. I will create a template using the suggestion of indenting Body Text. This will include increasing the indent of all other paragraph styles where necessary.

Actually the FIgures, Tables, and Notices (Notes and Warnings etc.) are in the center of the Text area.

  • How will They be indented / aligned with this new format ?

The guides already have enough pages and that format will increase their number of pages.

  • There will be more screen displacements to read the same content in pdf format.
  • Won’t it be an excessive paper expense in printed guides?

Hello Olivier

A suggestion for updating the Notes, Tips and Cautions for the LO user guides in the attached file. It does make them more visible on a page and, hopefully, LO users will take notice of them.

Hello Olivier

I forgot to mention the following for the paragraph styles:

Heading Note then Body Text, Note
Heading Tip then Body Text, Tip
Heading Caution then Body, Text Caution.

This is necessary to get the correct colour shading for Notes, Tips and Cautions.

PeeWee

Hi Peter
I’ve discussed with Dione. Here is anothe suggestion, based on yours.

The colored background did not enhanced visualization in our opinion.

Cheers
Olivier

Hello Olivier & Dione

I agree.
This suggestion looks better than my suggestion.
I did not realise you can add a border below a paragraph and that border only appears when the paragraph style changes.
You learn something everyday.
