Calc Guide needs YOU!

If anyone can help with updating the Calc Guide to LO v4.0, please
step forward.

At this point we need someone (or several people) with some knowledge
of spreadsheets in general and Calc in particular, even if your
English writing skills are not great. Other people can edit and
improve upon the English, if necessary. Others can also redo
screenshots from an American-English installation of LO, if necessary.

I'll be willing to help, as I explained in a post on "Getting Started 4.0
book and status of updating all user guides". I know the basics of
Spreadsheets, but will likely write some bits and leave bits I don't know
much about (like macros for instance) out.

Any particular areas need?

Hi :)
You can pick&choose which chapters of which guides so it's fairly easy to avoid doing stuff you really don't like.  Even the stuff you don't know is probably something you could review or proofread or something just to see if the proper worker has missed a comma or done a tpyo or something.

Two things are needed:
1) Write about new features and anything that has changed.
2) Improve explanations and/or provide real-life, relevant examples of use.

I haven't gone through the Calc Guide recently, so I can't say which specific chapters or topics need attention.

I'll set up your ODFAuthors account soon. You'll get a confirmation email.

I will look at parts of Calc 4 and review. Where do I find the basic text of Calc 4? I did not see in in the wiki. Maybe walk me through the review process of finding the document to be reviewed then where to save the document after my review and how to name the file.

I have been getting lots of emails from the review team, but I haven't gotten into the mechanics of the review. I have an ODF Authors account.

John,
Please see my reply to Kieran on the thread, "Getting Started 4.0 book

Jean,

I have gotten logged and now need to go from there.

Hello,

I can help you on the Calc Guide. I wrote the french Calc Guide for the 3.5
and 3.6 releases, with the help of a small team of reviewers. You can find
these documents (in french) here
<https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications/fr> . I'm
currently working on the 4.0 french Calc Guide.

When I completed the first 3.6 chapter, I uploaded this document
<https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:CG3401-IntroducingCalc-FRreview.odt>
in the wiki (I don't have an ODF Authors account). Let me know if you are
interested by such documents.

My english is not good enough, so I can only be a reviewer.

Best regards,

Hi
Ahh, i forgot that you haven't got a lot of experience with ODFAuthors.  Hopefully someone can set-up a login for you.  These guides might help a bit
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Development#First_steps_with_the_Documentation_team
Although the whole wiki could use a bit more work as always so if something doesn't make sense feel free to ask.  People do work quite hard at the wiki but it's the sort of thing that needs constant work.

Your English seemed fine so don't worry about it.  Just get straight into adding the things about new functionality and stuff.  There are always others that can proof-read and review your work so don't worry.

Since quite a few people have expressed interest in working on the Calc Guide it might be good if you each sign-out one chapter each and then review or proof-read someone else's or work on a new chapter if there isn't one already signed back in by then.

There is always a longer-term member of the team around to do final proofing and stuff so don't worry.  The aim is (again) to get the 4.0.0 guides out quickly and then perhaps worry more about the quality next time.  "Release early and release often" although this team seems to release more often than seems possible.

Yes, we are very interested! These reviews are very helpful. Marking
changes for v4.0 will also be very helpful, if you can do it. Don't
worry about your English; someone else can edit it.

If you would like to have an ODFAuthors account, I can set one up for
you. Or you can continue to put docs on the wiki and we can get them
from there.

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.

Please set an ODF Authors account for me and let me know in which folder I
can upload my document. Meanwhile, I will update my document with the new
4.0 features.

Best regards,

I have set up your account. You will receive an email with a link to
set your password.

Please upload files here:

Thank you!
