Updates from today's board meeting regarding development

Hello,

during today’s board meeting, Eliane Domingos, our Chairwoman, gave the following information in the public part, which I want to share with you today:

TDF’s Board of Directors, and TDF’s team (members of the staff) will have a meeting on April 20 and April 22 for the strategical planning regarding the next steps of the LibreOffice development. The agenda of the calls is to discuss the foundation’s goal in key areas, and will be around technical leadership, new features, technology, usability and the planning of LibreOffice Online.

In preparation, members of the team will have an initial coordination call already tomorrow afternoon, April 8.

With the team’s experise and the vision of the board, we will be ready to make the next steps in LibreOffice development.

While these initial calls will be private, to ensure a conversation with an overseeable amount of participants, we will keep you posted on the next steps, and then will - with TDF’s credo of transparency - also engage in a public discussion.

Today’s board call also officially welcomed Neil and Vissarion, our two new developers. Neil will work on Scripting support, while Vissarion will work on Base. They will ensure that TDF will grow knowledge, and share it with the wider community through documentation, mentoring and other activities.

LibreOffice and The Document Foundation are by the community, for the community, and we are looking forward to working with you!

Florian

I’d also like to place on the agenda of the strategic planning meeting the steps necessary to implement the vision of a P2P LibreOffice that I articulated back in 2013 in https://the.webm.ink/a-vision-for-libreoffice - it is complementary to any LOOL work.

Dear Simon,

Thank you very much for bringing this topic up again.

I really appreciate your contribution and agree that discussing the steps toward a P2P vision for LibreOffice is a valuable addition to our strategic planning. I have already added this item to the meeting agenda.

See you on Monday.

Best,

Eliane Domingos

As an update to the community: We had the first call on Monday and will have another call this evening (Berlin time). Thanks to @ohallot for taking minutes! When the calls are done, we will review them and see to publish information on what was discussed, also to engage a public discussion with the community.

We beg your pardon for having the calls in private first, but it’s already demanding to have a conversation in a group with 20-30 people, so we’d like to scale the discussion sensibly.
