Hi

I have published the Impress Guide 262 in web format.

The book is available in the Bookshelf website at https://books.libreoffice.org/en

The files in the Impress Guide 262 Published folder have been replaced because the previous chapters contained format errors. For that purpose I used the sanitycheck.oxt extension latest version (26.8). The complete book “IG262-ImpressGuide.odt” was not changed.

Below is a summary of the changes in the chapters.

  • Chapter fields fixed.

  • Chapters template updated to latest version.

  • Misplaced images (images appearing before the text)

  • Some numbered list not restarted

  • Styles not in chapter template were replaced and later removed

  • Tables refactored according to Sanity Check style

  • Many images sized down (80%) to save page real state.

  • Image + frames shifted in page to avoid stacking images with no text between.

  • Contents shifted to prevent large “voids” in the bottom of the page because the image following was too big.

  • Drop “Community” in LibreOffice name where appeared.

I have opened a new folder named “IG272” for the next edition of the Impress Guide 27.2 and the above mentioned files were placed in the WIP folder and renamed with prefix IG272.

Hello Olivier
After reading your email, I will take note of your comments and produce the forth coming Draw, Impress and Math user guides and try to follow the comments/suggestions. However, I think that a style format guide should be created.

In my past experience as a Technical Writer, I was trained to produce user guides in book format. Book format yiou avoid creating a blank spaces on a page and inserting figures as close as possible to a reference (not always possible).

Using HTML format will create large blank spaces in a user guide if it is printed. This can cause confusion to a LibreOffice user, especially if they are new to the software and computers. Solution is to have two versions of a user guide - book published format and HTML format. The main difference being where figures are positioned and cross referencing.

I will produce a format guide for published user guides to start the discussion amongst the team members.

I do some help in producing a user guide in HTML format. Do you have information on creating HTML documents?

Hello

I am getting a warning message from macOS that Intel based will no longer work. Apple silicon based apps will have to be used. The latest version of LO 26_8_03 is based on Intel X86_64.

Will the full version of LO 26.8 be Apple silicon based?

Let me be clear on the procedure for HTML.

Nothing changes in the current process for authoring. The guides continue to be edited in ODF and will produce PDF and ODF books as always. The book format is preserved.

HTML production is a downstream process handle by myself and others volunteers. Chapters produced by Authors are untouched.

We don’t need a format guide. All formatting is carried by the chapter templates and checked by the sanity check macros. The final book must also be checked by the sanity check macros.

So, let me know what does not work in the current chapter template.

But we aware that the chapter template we use is inside the sanity check extension. The macros are closely tied to the template and by using an alien template (as we see in the nextcloud folders) will produce issues I will have to fix once again.
