Hello,
today, it’s the annual System Administrator Appreciation Day (https://sysadminday.com).
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our infra team for their fantastic work, their remarkarble efforts and their absolutely professional handling of our infrastructure.
In particular to Guilhem Moulin and Christian Lohmaier, thank you very much for all you have done for us so far!
There are many roles in a free and open source project that are often “unseen”, which are only visible when something bad happens. Infrastructure is one of them. Maintenance windows at nights, operations literally 24/7 around the globe, a huge variety of services, that requires effective coordination, professional service management, good communication and repeated knowledge building.
Our community is a virtual one, so without the infrastructure we have today, all our designers, translators, developers, marketeers, documentation team members, those who give support to our end users and many many more - they would not have a platform to work on. So it’s fair to say that our infrastructure is the magic where everything begins and where everything happens.
The role often is an unthankful one, as you are only noticed when something is not working, and then you have to react within a short period of time, whether day or night time.
Thank you so much to both of you, and to everyone else involved, for all your precious work over the past decade, hoping for many more to come!
Florian
