Hello Olivier

Do we have chapter and user guide templates for LO262 approved and available for download?
I have just checked on NextCloud and only the testing template is on NextCloud.

Hi Peter

The current template we are using is embedded in the SanityCheck extension. You can donwload and install the extension from

I strongly advise to install it.

To apply the current chapter template , access menu "SanityCheck - Prepare Document - Link template.

The extension is developed and maintained by B. Antonio.

Cheers
Olivier

UG Chapter Template

I have found errors in the latest version of the chapter template that is now available and used with the Sanity Check.

The language for the template is set to Spanish. I have corrected my copy to English.

The contents type uses the Spanish word Contendio. I have corrected my copy to Contents.

A suggestion for a change.

There are two Heading 1 styles - Heading 1 and Heading 1 First. I understand why there are two versions, but I find them confusing. My suggestion is to create a Page Break After paragraph style that can be added at bottom of the Table of Contents, but not included in the ToC. Heading 1 First paragraph style can then be deleted and remove any possibility of confusion.

Hi @PeeWee

It should have been English if your LibreOffice locale setting is English. There is an English template in the extension with all English locale settings. Please tell us the locale you are using and we will make adjustments in the extension.

As workaround change the template manually to this one:

LO_UG_Chapters_26_EN.ott (88,7,KB)

For what is worth, my LO locale for guide edition is en-US.

Note to Bernardo: Provide a manual selection of the template, overriding the default locale selection.

The Heading1 style is Heading 1 with a page break. It is to be used wherever a Heading 1 must start a new page. It is used only in the first Heading 1 of the chapter, usually “Introduction”. That solution was offered by Jean Weber and we adopted it.

We will not change the template as it is used in all other books we work and is critical to the downstream export to HTML that we publish.

Olivier

1 - You must use LibreOffice with the interface in English (USA) to edit the English chapters content and use the macros of SanityCheck.

  • Then, you have the templates in English - (All prefixed with “_EN”) and the language of the styles in the templates is English (USA) — (Same aplied for spanish _ES and portuguese _PT documents and templates )

2 - The “Heading 1 First” paragraph style has as purpose to make a page break before the content of the chapter so the content of the chapter (after the Copyright pages) have the “Default Page Style” applied.

  • This style must be applied Only to the First Heading (as his name said) of the chapter content.
And the creationd and use has been deeply discused in New Chapter Template for LO24. (Where you also participate.)

Hello Antonio and Olivier

Attached is a screenshot of the Table of Contents, Index or Bibliography dialog. It was taken this morning after creating a new document from the template. As you can see, the word Contendio is used for Title in the Type and Title section. That is easy enough to change when using the template to create a new document or when updating and editing a ToC. I have deleted and reinstalled the template several times, but Contendio still appears.

What did surprise me was the style language indicated was Spanish when I checked the paragraph style properties. However, since restarting my MacMini M4 and my Windows notebook, the language displayed is now correct at English (US). I cannot explain why or was it the gremlins having some fun.

I still disagree with using a Heading 1 First paragraph style. The style name does not indicate that is used as a page break after the ToC pages. Sometimes I select Heading 1 First in error when formatting LO documents. A style name should indicate its purpose, which is why I suggested Page Break After. The alternative is to change Heading 1 First name to Heading 1 Page Break, or similar, to indicate style purpose.

PeeWee

When creating a document from the template, due to a typo in the English template, the TOC title is “Contenido” (should be Contents) but all styles are set to English. If you have automatic spell checking activated you will see that it marks it as an error.

Being a template, Both the Title of the TOC and the format and its content can be edited.
It can only be considered a small inconvenience that I will correct in the next extension update.
